Wednesday 15th June – bike ***** – Around Felixstowe including
breakfast at the water ski jetty – sunny and hot.
With temperatures set to sour today, Mag with an appointment at the dentist
and we were expecting a delivery we decided to head out early on our bikes.
We still had time for a cuppa in bed doing ‘Wordle’ etc and with
Weetabix plus flask packed we headed out just after 8 with not a cloud in
the sky, blue is definitely my favourite colour which was in abundance
today:) Down to the prom which was fairly busy with dog walkers and open
water swimmers, with the sea flat calm to was perfect conditions for a dip!
We made it to Felixstowe Ferry in time to see a canoe set off up the River
Deben to make the most of the incoming tide. We then bumped our way along
the Deben path with no one about, just birds, butterflies and dragonflies
with stunning views all round with the wheat now coming on well! I did see
another cyclist who recognised me from my pics on Facebook, it is usual for
them to know me as it is usually Mag they recognise! Despite there being a
lot of mud there were not many waders just a lonely curlew! We reached the
picnic benches by the water ski jetty where we had a lovely breakfast
enjoying the peace and quiet, just perfect! Well rested to carry onto the
first footpath inland to Falkenham which skirts yet more wheat fields. We
then take country lanes, bridal ways and foot paths back towards
Felixstowe. One interesting thing in a field recently sown with spinach
there was an excavator digging trenches??? We guessed it was an
archaeological dig or the farmer testing to see if the field is suitable
for another farm reservoir, who knows? Then onto to Candlet Lane where
there was a field of a delicate crop with lovely blue flowers, Mag used an
app. On her phone to identify the crop which turned out to be linseed.
Through the Grove woods and home, out for 2 hrs. 40 mins. covering another
12 miles enjoying the best that Suffolk has to offer! Then had a nice time
at home, me doing my exercises in the very hot back garden, at the least
the tan is coming along nicely while Mag sorted her compost. Our special
delivery arrived, we are very excited, more on that later before Mag has
her filling sorted!
I took some pics of the strawberry moon at 11 last night over the sea at
the end of our road and got one very briefly on BBC’s Look East!
